Robert Dann & the Nibjlm Dancers
Robert was born in 1970 in Broome, Western Australia.
Robert has been involved in the dance medium for many years and is a very talented dancer, choreographer and teacher.
Robert also plays the didgeridoo and delights the tourists at the regular Broome markets. Robert is very involved in Tourism in Broome and runs his own company giving tourists in insight to Aboriginal Culture and bush ways.
Dance
- 2007 – Performed with the Nibjlm Dancers at the G'day USA in Los Angeles.
- 2006 – Performed with the Nibjlm Dancers at the Ambert Festival in France.
- 2004 - With funding from ArtsWA and the Australia Council, Robert formed and developed The Nibjlm Dancers.
With the development of the dance group also came the development of six dances called "The Six Seasons". The dances depict the 'six' seasons of the northern Aboriginal culture and was showcased for the first time in Broome. The Nibjlm Dancers now have a promotional DVD to present to Festivals and Events throughout Australia and overseas, which is available on request. This group is now very ready to perform and delight audiences.
- 2003 - Robert participated in the Western Australian Indigenous Arts Showcase which was part of the Perth International Arts
Festival.
- 2002 and 2003 – Robert was 'Artist in Residence' at WAAPA for the Aboriginal Theatre Group.
- 1999 – Robert played the role of a traditional Aboriginal Lawman in the short film "Stranded", a Ray Mueller Film set in
Broome and the East Kimberley region.
- Robert has choreographed and participated in numerous workshops throughout schools in the Kimberley region of Western
Australia and at various Art and Youth Festivals and Forums.
- Robert was an inaugural member of the Modern Dreamtime Dancers in Broome and now plays the role of teacher and mentor to the
young dancers of Broome.
