- Derek in Alice Springs
working on Namatjira Project
|

Trevor and Derek finished the stunning season of 'Namatjira' and went their separate ways until next year. Derek went off to
the Pilbara for five works participating in workshops and storytelling. Trevor attended a two week initial rehearsal period with Yirra Yaakin and 'Waltzing the Wilarra' and then back to
Sydney for filming of an episode of the 'My Place' series.

The start of this month saw rave reviews from the media praising every aspect of the wonderful play, 'Namatjira'. I attended the opening night and was personally stunned by the
performances, the staging, the music, everything about this production was first class.
Some snippets from the reviews:-
Sydney Morning Herald
- Namatjira rests almost entirely on the shoulders of Trevor Jamieson, whose persuasive, free-flowing performance - as actor, dancer, guide, teacher and stand-up comedian
poking gentle fun at our white liberal sensitivities - confirms him as one of our most charismatic and talented leading men. In a supporting role,
but contributing a great deal to the warmth and wit of the play, Derek Lynch is funny and musical, and he's a sharp drag artist, too, flouncing
on as Namatjira's wife Rubina, a snooty Melbourne art lover and as the young Queen Elizabeth. Stage Noise - Jamieson .......Always a magnetic performer, he is now
an assured, sophisticated and immensely strong one too; and he has to be because the full weight of Namatjira rests on his shoulders. Curtain Call - played, somewhat incongruously, but oh-so-successfully
, by Pitjantjatjara man, Trevor Jamieson, who looks very much like being my inaugural nominee for Curtain Call's Performer Of The Year. Curtain Call -
Jamieson's highly-talented 'sidekick' is Derek Lynch, who matches the first in physical performance skills and is a riot in
drag, a petal on his mettle, not least as QE2, Namatjira's sweetheart, Robina and a social butterfly.

'Namatjira' opened at Belvoir Company B on 29 September and
was an instant success. Congratulations to my wonderful clients Trevor and Derek, for their stunning performances in this
inspiring play. Congratulations also to the team at Big hART and to Scott Rankin for his writing and co-direction with Wayne BlairAugust 2010
Everyone has been busy these last couple of months. Trevor and Derek have been preparing for the production of 'Namatjira'
which will open on 29 September at Belvoir Theatre in Sydney. Trevor has also been doing some preparation for Yirra Yaakin's 'Waltzing the Wilarra' by David Milroy, which will be a major feature at the 2011 Perth
International Arts Festival.
Heath is looking at a musical career and was very inspired during the visit of Martin Piecuch, Music Director
from New York, who was here to take a Masterclass for Indigenous singers in musical theatre and opera. Martin is also a very fine jazz musician and played with the
Graham Wood Trio at the Ellington Jazz Club while in Perth. Martin invited Heath to join the group playing his didgeridoo and the collaboration was just awesome.
Martin believes that Heath is an outstanding didgeridoo
player and will promote him in the US to do a tour playing the didgeridoo with jazz bands and perhaps a symphony orchestra.
